Do you have sole parental responsibility? Then you do not need permission from the other parent to go abroad with your child. You do need to be able to prove that you can travel with your child without permission.
Proof
You should bring with you:
- A recent (recommended: not older than 3 months) international extract from the Personal Records Database (BRP) of the child with parental and custody information. You request this document from the municipality where you live.
Sometimes you cannot get this extract. Then you can take these 3 replacement documents:
- International birth certificate or international extract from the BRP of the child with parental information
- Recent (recommended: not older than 3 months) extract from the BRP of the parent with responsibility with their marital status
- Recent (recommended: not older than 3 months) extract from the Parental Authority Register. This states that the child does not appear in the custody register
Parental responsibility through the court
Did you get parental responsibility through a court ruling? Then bring:
Deceased parent
Can you not request a recent (recommended: not older than 3 months) international extract from the BRP of the child with parental and custody information? Then bring:
- International birth certificate of your child with a copy of the death certificate of the other parent.
