As of 9 December 2024, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee has been conducting temporary internal border controls commissioned by the Ministry of Asylum and Migration, aimed at combating irregular migration and cross-border crime. In addition to internal border controls at land borders, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee has also been conducting internal border controls at Dutch airports since 28 July 2025.
