Technical glitches or administrative discrepancies may occur during the use of the Entry/Exit System (EES). Is your entry or exit registration incorrect, or are you dealing with a duplicate file? On this page, you can read about the potential consequences and how to contact the competent authority to request access to, correction of, or erasure of your data.

Possible issues

Due to technical or operational limitations, it may occur that:

  • Multiple EES registrations have been created for the same person (duplicate files).

  • An entry or exit registration is missing.

  • The registered data differs from your actual travel movements.

Potential consequences

An incorrect or incomplete registration may lead to:

  • Issues or denied access at automated border control (eGates).

  • An incorrect calculation of your remaining authorised length of stay (the 90/180-day rule).

  • An incorrect result in the European Commission's online tool 'Check How Long You Can Stay'.

What can you do?

Do you suspect that your data has been processed incorrectly? You have the right to access, rectify, or erase your data.

Submitting a request is done via the competent authority of the Member State through which you last entered or exited (or which you plan to visit on your first trip).

View the contact details of the competent authorities by Member State.

Supporting documents for your request

To enable the assessment of your request, please state in your application which Member State you last entered or exited through (or which Member State you intend to visit). In addition, please enclose supporting documents that prove your actual travel movements, such as:

  • A copy of your passport.

  • Boarding passes, flight tickets, or other travel details.

  • Other documents proving your actual departure or arrival.

Processing time and decision period

Currently, not all functionality of the EES is fully available. As a result, it may not be possible to process corrections or erasures of data in the system immediately.

Due to the volume of requests received, the full statutory decision period of 45 days may be used before you receive a response to your request.
