Travelling outside the Netherlands

If you are a Dutch national and you are going on holiday abroad, you may need a visa. It depends on what country you are going to and how long you will stay there.

Check if you need a visa

You do not need a visa for an EU or Schengen area country for a stay of 90 days or less. These countries are:

If you wish to stay longer than 90 days, you often have to register with the local authorities.

You need a valid Dutch passport or identity card when travelling within the EU or the Schengen area.

Going abroad for a longer period

If you are going abroad for a longer period, you may need a visa. It depends on what country you are going to. Contact this country’s embassy or consulate in the Netherlands. They will be able to advise you further. Contact a foreign embassy in the Netherlands.

Going abroad for a longer period
