As of today, Friday 10 April 2026, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee is fully operational with the European Entry/Exit System (EES) at all Dutch border crossing points. This makes border control within the Schengen Area more secure and efficient. The new automated registration replaces the manual stamping of passports for travellers from outside the European Union.
The EES enhances border security by digitally recording travel documents, fingerprints, and a facial image at every crossing. The system also logs the exact date and location of each entry and exit, which aids in combatting illegal migration. For EU citizens, the procedure at the border remains unchanged.
