The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee is closely involved in security measures following several incidents at Jewish sites in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. As a result of these incidents, security was temporarily scaled up at various locations last weekend.
Scaling up last weekend
During the night of Thursday to Friday, two Jewish institutions were targeted by explosions in quick succession. This has a significant impact on the Jewish community, the immediate surroundings, and the marechaussees involved. To coordinate the national deployment, both the police and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee participated in the National Staff for Large-Scale and Special Operations (NSGBO). In cooperation with the police, the Marechaussee implemented the increased security measures.
Guarding and Securing
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee has been supporting the National Police in securing various Jewish institutions and sites in the Netherlands since 2015. Initially, this task was performed by specialised assistance units, followed by high-risk security units. The Marechaussee has now been carrying out these security duties for over ten years.
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee plays a crucial role in the field of guarding and security in the Netherlands. We are flexible and robustly deployable to protect vital sites, individuals, and services against threats.
